1.      What is the purpose of advertising?

The process used by the people who want to sell goods or services, to sell a product or service.

Advertising funds various forms of media.

2.      What is a ‘target market’?

The audience the advertising agency wants to reach. The advertisement needs to understand their audience, to tailor the advertisements.

3.      How does advertising work?

Shown to people most likely to buy the product. Research the trends in the demographic. Adverts are placed in a way to reach the audience as much as possible.

4.      What is ‘reach’?

Total number of people reached in a given period. Doesn’t leave a strong impression. Narrow audience, but more frequently.

5.      What is ‘frequency’?

Number of times someone is likely to see the advertisement during the campaign.

6.      What sort of elements does an advertising agency spend its money on?

AU$100,000-150,000. Advertising agencies (research, production), scheduling

7.      How important is the USP?

(Unique Selling Point) What makes a product different (new, exciting, better, efficiency, beneficial (fair trade, carbon neutral)) from the competitors. USP triggers the desire to purchase.

8.      Why might an advertising campaign fail?

Incorrect research (wrong reach/frequency), if the advert gets pulled
